The Wiltshire Scrapstore has made it to the finals of the Peoples Millions Competition which is run in partnership with the local ITV 6pm News.

A short film about the work of the Scrapstore will be aired on the 6pm ITV local news on Wednesday 27th November.

The Scrapstore are seeking funding to develop a community cafe at the Scrapstore. This will become the social hub of the charity; it is a service that many Scrapstore users have been asking them to provide for a long time. As part of the project they will also be offering volunteering opportunities to those not in paid work to learn valuable life and work skills to help them get back into paid employment.

The competition will be decided by a public telephone vote on the 27th November. Please call 0871 626 88 95

Please register your vote on the day – lines open at 9am.  Calls cost 10p from a landline and up to 10 calls can be made from any one number.  Calls from a mobile may cost considerably more.

More information about the project can be found here:http://www.peoplesmillions.org.uk/2013-finalists/west-country-east/bartys-cafe

What to do with old maps!

mapchairI have now found out why my desk was covered with glue and scraps of paper earlier this week!  A ‘crafty’ friend is currently making this beautiful map chair covered with old British road maps!   When it is complete the chair will be sold to raise funds for the Wiltshire Scrap Store, who have already sold similar chairs covered with scraps of comics and wall paper.

I am looking forward to seeing the finished product.
